Seattle Bank Community Involvement Results
For Immediate Release: August 25, 2009
SEATTLE - Seattle Bank made more than $88,000 in corporate contributions to support the community and economic development work of local nonprofit organizations in its 2008/2009 fiscal year, announced Ellen Sas, President and Chief Executive Officer for Seattle Bank.
Recipients of the funds, which were provided in the form of grants and sponsorships, included 14 different organizations. This was the first year of the company’s formal corporate contributions program, which is funded with two percent of its pretax profits.
The organizations that received contributions are:
Home for Good
Impact Capital
Lighthouse Mission Ministries
NPower Seattle
Tacoma-Pierce County Affordable Housing Consortium
The Seattle Foundation / Bank on Seattle-King County
Union Gospel Mission / Hope Place
United Way of King County
Washington Community Reinvestment Association (WCRA)
Capitol Hill Housing Improvement Program
Habitat for Humanity Seattle/South King County
Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties
Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority
University of Washington Business and Economic
Development Center (Foster School)
Seattle Bank also conducted a survey in spring 2009 to gather information regarding community involvement activities of its staff and its nearly 30 mortgage company office and banking centers. Among the community partnerships supported is Puget Sound Home Mortgage (PSHM), an affiliate of Seattle Mortgage Company, which participates in the Landlord Liaison Project (LLP). The project’s objectives are to minimize the risks generally associated with the relationship between tenants that are in-transition from homelessness and landlords, and thereby increase the availability of affordable rental units for individuals and families that are in-transition. PSHM took a unique approach by using their client database to identify rental vacancies. With the help of the LLP, potential landlords are then matched with approved individuals and families. PSHM’s participation displays their commitment to the community, helping families secure shelter, helping customers find tenants, and improving the overall conditions of the region. PSHM is just one example of how Seattle Bank and its affiliates are making a difference.
Many of Seattle Bank executives and employees also assist organizations in need on an individual basis. Executive members of Seattle Bank participate in committees and boards such as Housing Resources Group, Bank on Seattle-King County and the University of Washington Business and Economic Development Center. Individual employee contributions vary and include such organizations as United Way and Seattle Children’s Home, along with pro bono escrow services for Habitat for Humanity Seattle/South King County.
